Petersfield CC is a Focus Club

In July 2009 Petersfield CC achieved Clubmark status. We are now delighted to announce that the committee has decided to accept Hampshire Cricket Board’s recent invitation to become a Focus Club.

Greg Stewart, HCB Cricket Development Officer, said “The upgrade to Focus Club is testament to the hard work that has gone into the development of the club over the past years. Throughout my time at Hampshire Cricket Board I have been really impressed with the club’s commitment to the progression of young players and I am delighted to have you on board as a Focus Club.”

This is a significant step for us to take and therefore the club would like to thanks all those who have volunteered and helped the club over its long history. The club has been growing the colts’ section over the past 5 years and now some of the older colts are starting to have an impact in the senior teams. The future success in the club will be based on these young players and the club is really looking forward to the 2010 season with anticipation.

A Focus Club is part of a Community Cluster which is in essence a geographic area and is a collaboration of:

  • The Focus Club (cricket club)
  • Its partnership of schools / education establishments (including primary, secondary, special education needs schools, high and further education colleges)
  • Local community groups (including youth clubs, brownies, guides, cubs, etc...)
  • Local business and sponsors

The club is now actively increasing its liaison with schools in the area via our Schools Liaison Officer Mark Friend. We have had good support from local businesses and sponsors over the years including David Neilan and Co, Agincourt Contractors, Sumach Sales and dbc food service. We would like to try and grow this support as the club becomes more successful in the coming years.

Focus Clubs are selected by County Boards on the basis that:

  • They are identified as a key deliverer within the County Cricket Board Strategic Development Plan.
  • They are committed to delivery of junior development programmes and/or development activities with specific target groups (disability, women/girls, and ethnic minorities).
  • They are able to access and utilise ECB, County Cricket Board and local development resources to support the delivery of their club development plan.

The club have recently started a girls’ section and an U11 team will be playing matches against other girls’ teams in the district.

The club has signed a Service Level Agreement with Hampshire Cricket Board and some of the key benefits to the club will be:

  • Support from HCB to apply for funding through ECB Grant Aid for major facility developments in line with HCB Facility Strategy
  •  Priority and subsidised access to training courses
  • Dedicated Cricket Development Officer support
  • Priority access to coaching, umpiring, scorers and groundsman courses
  • Priority access to sources of grants and funding
  •  Priority access to County Pitch Advisor
  • Pre match Kwik cricket demonstrations by our teams before one day games at the Rose Bowl
  • Opportunities for pre match demonstrations on major match days

Hopefully with these benefit we will be able to continue to improve our provision of cricket to young people and in time we will start to see these players make a difference to our senior teams.
